We have a terrible inferiority complex, a legacy of good old boy incompetence, and a recalcitrant racial history which causes an impasse at the corner of Crime and Victimhood. Why would anyone live in Springfield when it's a nighttime shooting gallery? Why move to a swanky loft when there aren't any? Help!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-891432348410990389.post-30983529361227713492010-01-01T11:32:57.374-08:002010-01-01T11:32:57.374-08:00I think your assessment of other Florida cities is...I think your assessment of other Florida cities is WAY off. I've never heard Tampa referred to as flashy (LOL) or fake. It has a large thriving historic district called Ybor City but its downtown is otherwise struggling to revitalize, although there has been some housing developments. Its metro counterpart, St Petersburg, is farther along with revitalizing its downtown which has a lot of retail and housing.

As for Orlando, I get that it might be called fake by people who have never been to its wonderfully pleasant and walkable downtown. This Jacksonville site also featured a look at Orlando's success with its downtown. Even when it was run down Pittsburgh was always a major knowledge capitol with Pitt and Carnegie Mellon, and now they've figured out how to capitalize on it. That, and sports, which has also played a major role in bringing Pittsburgh back.NRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11590061590788951151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-891432348410990389.post-85064111829096284412009-12-17T20:49:51.742-08:002009-12-17T20:49:51.742-08:00I think Pittsburg is a good example of how cities ...I think Pittsburg is a good example of how cities can make a turn around. They were the armpit of the Northeast just 10 years ago. When I had a business trip there five years ago, I could see the potential in the unique neighborhoods close to downtown. They were in transition. Some were being fixed up and a block or two over it was the ghetto. If Pittsburgh can do it, so can Jacksonville.OK Dudehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04657693215548899905noreply@blogger.com
